The Post Diploma BHSc program has been developed to meet the needs of practicing technologists, sonographers, therapists and paramedics who have an interest in completing a baccalaureate degree.

The School of Health Sciences offers a post diploma program leading to a Bachelor of Health Science in any of our main disciplines, including:

The Post-Diploma program is also available in two additional disciplines. These are only available to Post-Diploma applicants, and do not apply to our direct-entry BHSc program:

Through a guided selection process, students choose courses that contribute to their professional growth and interest. Students have the opportunity to broaden their knowledge of the Canadian healthcare system, as well as to enhance their leadership abilities and to equip them for participation in a rapidly changing healthcare environment.

Curriculum

The post diploma BHSc curriculum is equivalent to 2 years of full-time university study (60 credit hours). Courses may be completed in the sequence best suited for the student; however, attention must be paid to course pre-requisites. Please review our Curriculum webpage for further details.

The BHSc EMS Management stream follows a slightly different curriculum. For details, please review the EMS Management webpage.

Students can also use their elective choices to graduate with additional certificates or a diploma, alongside their degree.聽 For details, please speak to your academic advisor.聽

Applying to the Post-Diploma BHSc Program

The Post-Diploma BHSc program is designed for working technologists, sonographers, therapists, and paramedics who wish to further their education.

To be considered for admission into the Post-Diploma BHSc program, applicants must submit:

  • A letter of intent: this provides the opportunity for you to expand upon your experience, any advanced or specialty education you may have and your interest in undertaking university studies.聽
    • Information to be included: details of two years of Post-Diploma work experience; educational initiatives undertaken since diploma completion; other professional activities, e.g. in professional association, how you think this program will contribute to your professional development; personal and professional motivation, and readiness for university education
  • Evidence of successful completion of diploma program in the profession for which you are applying (ACP for Paramedics);
  • Proof of successful completion of your National/Provincial licensing/certification examination;
  • Evidence of good standing with your (Canadian) professional association and/or college (your current registration number with the applicable Canadian professional association, or a photocopy of your current membership card must be submitted);
  • Your resume, demonstrating 2 years FTE professional experience in your field;
    • Please also include the names, addresses, and phone numbers of two references.

Applicants must also meet 91短视频's undergraduate admisson requirements.

The Post-Diploma BHSc program is not direct-entry or intended for individuals without prior education/experience聽 in the field that they are applying for. Individuals in this category should refer to the 4-year BHSc program.

How do I apply to the Post-Diploma BHSc program?

Applications must be submitted through Dal's application portal.

Can I enroll to start in January?

Unlike our direct-entry BHSc program, the Post-Diploma BHSc offers a January or September start. 

The admission deadline for a January start is October 15th. For a September start, the deadline is June 15th. 

Can the Post-Diploma BHSc be completed virtually/at a distance?

Yes. Provided that you choose electives that are not in-person, the entirety of the Post-Diploma BHSc can be completed at a distance.

Can I complete the Post-Diploma BHSc on a part-time basis?

The Post-Diploma program is available on a full time or part-time basis and most of the courses are delivered via distributed (i.e., distance) learning, using the Brightspace learning management system platform. Please review our Scheduling Options webpage for further details.

When can I expect to hear from the school regarding the status of my application?

Post-Diploma BHSc applications are only reviewed after the deadline of October 15th or February 15th. You can expect an update on your application status only after these dates have passed.

Can I apply to the post-BHSc program without previous experience in the field?

No. The Post-Diploma BHSc program is not direct-entry or intended for individuals without prior education/experience in the field that they are applying for. Individuals in this category should refer to the 4-year BHSc program.

I have a previous healthcare degree in a different discipline. Am I eligible for the Post-Diploma BHSc?

No. The Post-Diploma BHSc program is not direct-entry or intended for individuals without prior education/experience in the field that they are applying for. Individuals in this category should refer to the 4-year BHSc program.

Can I transfer any credits from a previous program?

To be compliant with 91短视频's regulations associated with minimum credit hours, transfer credits from outside 91短视频 are not eligible to be included for this program.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Specialty Practice?

Specialty practice provides students with discipline-relevant learning experiences at a level not available in their previous diploma education. It builds on the knowledge, skills and attitudes that students have acquired and affords them the opportunity to attain added competence and further knowledge in a specialty practice area. 

This may include learning directed toward advance certification or clinical and theoretical opportunities that stretch the boundaries of a particular discipline. For a list of possible specialty practice areas contact your advisor.

Do I need to get the same vaccinations and CPR certifcations as the 4-year entry level students?

Most Post-Diploma students are not required to provide proof of immunization or CPR certification.


If you choose to take a specialty practice course or an advanced level clinical course, you will be required to provide proof of immunization and BCLS certification. You would also be required to sign any relevant student agreements.
