About the Presenter

Lynda Monk, MSW, RSW, CPCC, Director of The International Association of Journal Writing, an inspiring community for journal writers worldwide, is known for her profound insights into the therapeutic and life-changing power of journaling. Through her dynamic speaking engagements and educational sessions, she inspires individuals to harness the power of writing to heal and transform their lives.Ìý

Lynda is the co-editor and co-author of several books includingÌýThe Great Book of Journaling;ÌýTransformation Journaling for Coaches, Therapists and Clients;ÌýWriting Alone Together, and other titles. Her latest book (March 2026) isÌýThe Adoptee’s Guide to Healing, Wholeness & Growth. Lynda developed Life Source Writing and co-created, along with Dr. Eric Maisel, a comprehensive training program called The Art of Journal Coaching. Lynda is a Registered Social Worker and Certified Professional Life Coach, with 30+ years’ experience teaching, speaking, and coaching in the areas of burnout prevention, self-care, wellness and writing to heal. Overview

Journaling is a powerful, evidence-informed practice that supports mental health, resilience, and personal growth. In this 4-week online course, Registered Social Worker and journaling expert, Lynda Monk will introduce you to the art of journal coaching. Designed for social workers and helping professionals, this experiential course teaches practical skills to integrate transformational journaling into your work with clients and groups. You will learn how to use expressive writing to support insight, well-being, and meaningful change while also cultivating your own journaling practice for self-care and professional renewal. By the end of the course, you will have tools and confidence to bring journal coaching into your professional practice.

Learning Objectives

  1. Develop foundational journal coaching skillsÌýto effectively integrate reflective journaling practices into individual and group support settings.
  2. Explore evidence-informed expressive writing techniquesÌýthat foster self-awareness, emotional processing, resilience, and meaningful personal growth.
  3. Learn practical journal coaching tools and promptsÌýthat help clients gain insight, clarify goals, navigate life challenges, and strengthen inner resources.
  4. Cultivate a reflective journaling practice for professional self-care and renewalÌýto help prevent burnout, compassion fatigue, and emotional overwhelm in helping roles.
  5. Build confidence facilitating transformational journaling experiencesÌýthat create safe, supportive, and growth-oriented spaces for reflection, healing, and authentic expression.

This course provides video lessons, sample journal coaching sessions, readings, and engaging activities. Lynda provides a responsive and supportive environment in the online learning space for this course.Ìý

There is no prior journal coaching or journal therapy experience needed to benefit from this course. Bring your interest in the healing and transformational power of journaling, along with your own journal or notebook and favourite pen, as you will be invited to go to the page for your own experience of journaling for reflective learning and renewal too.

Format

This course includes four weekly modules. Each module requires approximately 3 hours of course work.

Speed of learning and ease with technology will affect the time it takes to complete the course exercises. Basic technical and computer skills are required to watch online videos, post questions and comments, and navigate the website.

There are no scheduled lecture times. The course site is available 24/7.
