Law Hour: Accountability in Practice – The Role of SiRT and its Interface with the Legal Profession

91¶ÌÊÓÆµ Law Hour, in collaboration with the Criminal Justice Coalition, the (DCLSA), and the (DPJS), is pleased to welcome the first Law Hour lecturer of the winter semester, Erin Nauss.

Nauss is the director of the (SiRT) for the police in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick and will speak about accountability in practice, SiRT's role in it, and how the organization interfaces with the legal profession. She has been practising law for 19 years, having previously held various leadership and management positions with the Nova Scotia Department of Justice. 

What is SiRT?

The Serious Incident Response Team is a police oversight agency responsible for conducting investigations into incidents that involve death, serious injury, sexual assault, intimate partner violence, or any matter of public interest that may have resulted from the actions of a police officer, on or off duty, in Nova Scotia or New Brunswick. The Chiefs of all municipal police agencies and the heads of the RCMP, in both provinces, are required by law to refer all serious incidents to SiRT.
