Physical Activity & Cancer Lab

Under the direction of Dr. Melanie Keats and Dr. Scott Grandy, the PAC Lab is dedicated to the study of physical activity/exercise in individuals living with or affected by a cancer diagnosis. Their research examines how physical activity/exercise can help prepare patients for surgery/treatment (prehabilitation), better cope with and respond to treatments, recover from treatments (rehabilitation), improve progression-free and long-term survival (health promotion), and support patients with a terminal diagnosis (palliative care).

The PAC Lab is located on the 5th floor at Dickson Building - QEII Health Sciences Centre. They are on a mission to revolutionize cancer care by making exercise a part of standard oncology care. Their vision is to optimize the use of exercise in cancer management and recovery. Through their research projects, they explore various aspects such as:

  • Prehabilitation
  • Recovery
  • Reducing treatment side-effects
  • Survival
  • Rehabilitation and Palliative Care

Additionally, they focus on the adoption and maintenance of exercise across the cancer continuum, aiming to create sustainability within the community. Join them in our pursuit of enhancing the overall wellbeing of individuals affected by cancer through the power of exercise.
