Formerly known as the Office of Human Rights, Equity and Harassment Prevention, Dal Human Rights & Equity Services has a new name, a new strategic framework, is adding new staff positions, and is looking for a new space to better support its mission.

Diane Hawco brings a combination of social work and legal expertise to the new role of ombudsperson, which provides independent, impartial and confidential support to students.

During his keynote speech at the Halifax Chamber of Commerce’s fall dinner Wednesday night, 91¶ÌÊÓƵ President Richard Florizone announced ideaHUB — an advanced engineering incubator/accelerator space on Dal’s downtown campus that will equip students with creative and entrepreneurial skills while supporting local startups and small businesses. An initiative involving various university, public and private sector partners, ideaHUB is supported by a $10 million contribution from Emera.

Dal's waste management strategy continues its rollout, with new waste bin standards being implemented on Studley and Carleton campuses over the fall study break.
