Maike van Niekerk has accomplished a lot in her time as a Dal Nursing student: conducting research on cancer and Canada's Indigenous peoples; winning several major university and community awards; launching a cancer charity in memory of her mother. Now, she's off to study at Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar.

Researchers from Dal's Faculties of Science and Medicine took home awards in three of the four major categories at the 14th annual Discovery Awards, which celebrate science, technology and innovation in Nova Scotia. Dal Physics Professor Jeff Dahn was also inducted into the Nova Scotia Science Hall of Fame.
